Crypto stunt leads to arrest at Hollywood sign
- February 17, 2025

The Los Angeles Police Department detained a man involved in a promotional stunt for a cryptocurrency token named Vigilante. The individual was apprehended after climbing the Hollywood sign and brandishing a flag that advertised the digital currency, complete with the token's name, website, and social media handles.
The operation to secure the man, who was dressed in dark attire and a ski mask, was executed with caution, with officers having an ambulance ready. The stunt, which was resolved in under two hours, was premeditated by the company behind Vigilante token, as revealed by a previous post on their social media.
The company had teased a significant token launch event on February 14, 2025, promising to execute a viral marketing campaign. Vigilante's post expressed their commitment to their token and their intention to orchestrate grand promotional activities post-launch to bolster the so-called Vigilante Movement.
Following the high-risk publicity act, the Vigilante token experienced a dramatic spike in value, skyrocketing over 60,000% momentarily and reaching a market capitalization of $5.5 million. Despite this initial success, the token's price plummeted by 99.5% within the next day.
Despite the sharp decline in the token's value, the Vigilante team remained optimistic. On Thursday, they announced plans for another significant event as a prelude to their next major promotional effort. The details of the upcoming event have not been disclosed.
